Leicester's Vardy Penalised For Racist Language

Vardy Keen To Move On From Racist Slur Row

Leicester forward Jamie Vardy has been handed a 'substantial fine' for his alleged use of racist language.

And the 28-year-old, who was capped by England in the summer, will also undergo diversity awareness training.

Vardy has apologised after he was filmed allegedly using racist language while at a casino.

And a club statement was released on Thursday which read: "Leicester City Football Club has concluded its investigation into claims made against Jamie Vardy in the national media last weekend.

"Having established a full account of the incident in question and taken into consideration Jamie's prompt apology, the club has issued the player with a substantial fine and prescribed a programme of diversity awareness training.

"Jamie has been reminded of his responsibilities to the Club, his profession and the Leicester community. The fine will be donated to local charities.

"The club will make no further comment on the matter, which it now deems to be closed."

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri had earlier said that Vardy would not be sacked by the club and that there were no problems between Vardy and his Japan strike partner Shinji Okazaki.

Ranieri said: "Jamie has apologised to everybody, it was a mistake, and there is a good relationship between Shinji and Jamie, and for me everything is closed."
