Leon Edwards will take on former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in a huge UFC London main event in March at the O2 Arena.

Birmingham’s Edwards is on one of the hottest streaks in MMA with eight consecutive wins, forcing his way up the 170lbs rankings with huge wins over Donald Cerrone, Gunnar Nelson and Rafael dos Anjos.

Woodley meanwhile has not fought since losing his welterweight strap to Kamaru Usman in March last year but remains the no.1 ranked fighter in the division.

Edwards’ only defeat in UFC came against Usman in December 2015, winning every fight since then.

Victory over Woodley in the capital on 21 March will surely give him the opportunity to right that wrong and win his first world title in the same swoop.

“Last year I was the co-main event in London and was delighted to get a great win in front of my home crowd, but it will be a real honour to be at the top of the card and finally headline at The O2 for the first time," Edwards said.

“I’ve believe that I’ve truly earnt the right to be top of the billing with my recent wins and I'm looking forward to performing at my very best and giving the fans what they want.”
