"There's only one way forwards," opined the inimitable Manc rock icon Liam Gallagher earlier this week. "And it's f***ing backwards".

For Oasis fans, it's time to head 30 years backwards to be precise. To revel in the band's seminal debut album as Liam triumphantly celebrates Definitely Maybe's anniversary year.

Heading on to the Manchester homecoming leg of gigs is undoubtedly going to be special - for both Liam and the fans. And Liam told the MEN he's "buzzing" for it.

Speaking to the MEN earlier this year, Liam was looking forward to playing Manchester's newest live venue. He said: "I'm impressed, it looks good. I'm into it man."

With typical Liam swagger he added: "The big gigs are easy - I get more nervous at the little gigs you know."

Of the Definitely Maybe setlist - which will feature some of Oasis's biggest anthems like Live Forever, Slide Away and Supersonic - Liam was equally enthused.

"I just can't wait to play some of those really old ones that we haven't played since the 90s you know," he said. "I'm just looking forward to getting in there and getting the nice set together, I'm buzzing."

The shows, which also see Oasis founding member Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs on stage, have already been winning rave reviews from fans and critics alike since Liam kicked off the tour in Sheffield earlier this month. Pictures of the gigs show that the iconic artwork from the album's cover will be celebrated in the design of the show - think classic Burt Bacharach album, giant atlas and pink flamingo.

He is also excited to have son Gene playing in support at the gigs with his band Villanelle. "I'm proud of them," he said, before quipping: "It keeps them from mugging old women on the streets."

"As long as they're happy and they can make a living out of it, it's a good thing being in a band, You get to see the world and all that stuff."

If anyone should know that, it's our Liam. Here's more of what to expect from the Liam gigs, which start on Saturday, June 15 and then continue at Co-op Live on June 16, 27 and 28.

It's worth getting along early as there are two cracking support acts for the show. First up will be Villanelle, the hotly-tipped new band that features Liam's son Gene Gallagher as frontman.

Then indie legends Cast will take to the stage. The Liverpool band fronted by John Power have been playing some of their biggest hits so far on the tour including Fine Time and Walkway and Alright.
