Liam Gallagher explains new song Moscow Rules 'is not pro-Russia'

Liam Gallagher has been left in an awkward spot by a track on his forthcoming album called Moscow Rules.

The song, co-written with Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, is unfortunately titled given that it was recorded before Russia began its attacks on Ukraine and the album, C'Mon, You Know, which is due to be released on 27 May has already been pressed - meaning he can't change the name or lyrics.

Speaking to radio station 94.5 The Buzz, Gallagher explained: "It's nothing to do with 'Moscow is cool, or it rules', it's not pro Moscow, you know what I mean.

"The timing is a bit s****y, but when people hear it they'll realise it is what it is and it’s nothing to do with that."

Outspoken rocker Gallagher added: "If people really kick up a storm about it and they don't want it then just don't f***ing listen to it, you know what I mean, simple as that, it's only music, if it really upsets people then I guess we can bin it off, it's not a problem."

The former Oasis frontman recently aired his views on U2, who he had previously labelled "toff rock", saying that they were too boring to be rock stars.

Gallagher had been hailed as "one of the last remaining rock stars" by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, prompting him to respond by tweeting "he's correct, the rest of them are useless."

Expanding on his tweet to Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez, Gallagher said: "I mean, not all of them are [useless], but the majority of them are. The ones that think they're rock stars are not, they ... just live a very boring f****** life, and I think rock 'n' roll deserves a little bit more than just making music, you know what I mean?

"You gotta get out there and get yourself — you just gotta live an exciting life. It's like U2, they pass themselves as a rock 'n' roll band, but what the?

"Come on, man, I've never seen f****** Bono, I mean I've never seen any of them do anything remotely rock 'n' roll."
