Lib Dem leader Ed Davey slightly more sedate appearance at football club

Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey paid a more sedate visit to a football club to show his support for the local candidate this week.

As Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer visited Oxfordshire on the campaign trail this week, Mr Davey also met with locals ahead of the General Election.

Charlie Maynard, who is standing as a Liberal Democrat candidate in Witney, said: "Really honoured to have Ed Davey visit us at the Carterton Football Club yesterday.

"We were so grateful for him making the effort after his own busy day.

"It demonstrates just how important winning Witney constituency is to the Lib Dems."

This comes after the party leader took part in a bungee jump before asking voters to take a similar ‘leap of faith’ on polling day.

On Monday, the Lib Dem leader carried on his action-packed General Election campaign by flinging himself off a crane platform while shouting: “Do something you’ve never done before – vote Liberal Democrat.”

Mr Sunak also kicked off a final push for votes on the last two days of the campaign with a visit to Carterton where he visited the Morrisons supermarket ahead of speaking to staff at a distribution centre in Banbury.

Carterton is in the former Oxfordshire seat of Lord David Cameron where the Tories won with a 15,200 majority in 2019.

The other Witney candidates are: Robert Courts, Conservative; Antonio Weiss, Labour; Andrew Prosser, Green; Richard Langridge, Reform UK; Barry Ingleton, Independent; David Cox, Heritage Party.
