Liberal Democrats claim successes in Devon council by-elections

The Liberal Democrats have gained an extra councillor following four district council by-elections which took place in Devon on Thursday. Voters in Exmouth , Ashburton and Buckfastleigh, Tavistock and Bideford went to the polls to elect councillors to fill vacancies on their district councils.

The Conservatives held onto the Exmouth Brixington ward in East Devon with Cllr Aurora Bailey elected, but the other three elections all voted yellow. The Liberal Democrats held onto Tavistock North in West Devon with Holly Greenbury-Pullen and Ashburton and Buckfastleigh in Teignbridge with Jack Major elected, and gained Bideford North from the Green Party with Teresa Tinsley elected.

In the regular local elections, Labour held onto Exeter City Council. As they did in Plymouth with a massive night of success, winning 15 of the 19 seats.

The council now consists of 16 Independents, 9 Liberal Democrats, 6 Conservatives, 3 Green Party, 2 Labour,

WEST DEVON

The council currently comprises of 11 Conservatives, 11 Independents, 4 Green Party, 4 Liberal Democrats, 1 Labour. The council is run by a coalition of the Independents, Green Party, Liberal Democrats and Labour
