Lifeboat crews were called upon to help the search for a missing person off the coast of Burnahm-on-Sea during the night of Monday, May 13. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crews were contacted by Milford Haven coastguard at 9.36pm.

The D class lifeboat Burnham Reach was launched with four people on board. The Atlantic 85 lifeboat Doris Day and Brian, including helm and navigator, also joined the search with both boats on the water by 9.56pm.

The D class headed around the back of Steart Island and searched from east to west from Fenning Island along Steart Marshes. Meanwhile, the Atlantic 85 crew began at Hinkley and moved from west to east.

The missing male was found by police near the westerly end of Steart Marshes within around 40 minutes. Both lifeboats were stood down by Milford, and returned to Burnham for recovery and washdown by the volunteer shore crew, with station vacated by 11.30pm.

Helmsman Marc Smith said: "Both boats began shoreline searches from the given starting positions, but around 40 mins into the search the police found the person towards the westerly end of Steart marshes. Thankfully, a positive outcome."
