Line of Duty's Kelly Macdonald lands next movie role in O'Dessa

Line of Duty star Kelly Macdonald has landed her next movie role opposite Stranger Things' Sadie Sink in new musical O'Dessa.

The upcoming film is set to focus on Sink's character, a farm girl in a post-apocalyptic future who sets out on a quest to recover a family heirloom. On the way, she travels to a dangerous city and meets her true love – though must save his soul.

Macdonald has joined the project alongside The Devil All the Time's Pokey LaFarge, according to Variety, though details on their roles remain under wraps.

O'Dessa is also set to star The Last of Us' Murray Bartlett, Girls Trip's Regina Hall and Elvis' Kelvin Harrison Jr – the latter of whom will play the love interest.

The film comes from writer/director Geremy Jasper, who has also penned original songs alongside Jason Binnick.

Macdonald has been well-known in recent years for starring as DCI Joanne Davidson in the BBC's Line of Duty, which came to an end in 2021.

Speaking last year about the prospect of her character returning should the show come back at some point, she told the Radio Times: "I don't think my character will be back. I suppose it's a possibility at some point."

The star also spoke about making the show during the pandemic, saying: "I have to say that Line of Duty for me was a very odd experience because of COVID.

"It was strange days and it feels there's life before COVID and life after, and Line of Duty was right at that point for me."

Line of Duty is streaming on BBC iPlayer, and DVD and Blu-ray boxsets are also available to buy now.
