Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar has said it has been "wonderful" finding fame later in his career.

The 64-year-old actor has acted since the 1980's but only found wide appeal through his starring role in the hit BBC crime drama.

Talking to the Radio Times, Dunbar said about fame: "These things are all the more wonderful when they happen later because I think you're in a better place to deal with it and also more likely to have learnt how to make the part work."

Dunbar, who plays Ted Hastings in Line of Duty, also confirmed that he recently recorded lines as the character for a parody about former Metropolitan Police commissioner Cressida Dick.

In the video, created by political campaign group Led by Donkeys, Hastings can be seen mocking Dick and the police over the Partygate scandal involving Boris Johnson and several other members of the government having illegal parties during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Dunbar said that Led by Donkeys reached out to him and series creator Jed Mercurio to put the video together.

He said: "These guys are really good. Would you record this and that? So we did and I think they treated it a bit so it kind of sounds like us, but might not be. It was very good. It didn't quite get rid of Johnson then but it got rid of Cressida Dick."

At its peak, Line of Duty was watched by over 10 million people in the UK and became particularly popular during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Over his lengthy career, Dunbar is also known for his performances in acclaimed drama The General, My Left Foot alongside Daniel Day-Lewis and music biopic Good Vibrations.

Some of his other TV roles include Ashes to Ashes, Blood and Broken.
