Linkin Park announce plans for public memorial service to honour late frontman Chester Bennington

Linkin Park will host a public memorial service in tribute of late frontman Chester Bennington.

The rock band announced that a “special event” for fans and friends would take place in Los Angeles in an emotional social media post on Tuesday night.

Thanking their fan for their “tremendous outpouring of love”, they confirmed that more details would be released in the next few weeks.

“Just wanted to say thank you to all our fans around the world for the tremendous outpouring of love, which has strengthened our spirit during this incredibly difficult time,” it read.

“The five of us are so grateful for all of your support as we heal and build the future of Linkin Park."

The post continued: “We are working on a special public event in Lose Angeles to honor Chester’s memory, and look forward to sharing details with you soon. Peace and love, Phoneix and Linkin Park.”

The band haven’t performed since Bennington was found dead at his LA home on July 2, with a corner ruling the cause of death as suicide.

A private memorial ceremony was hosted at a private residence in California on July 29, with Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda and Joe Hahn delivering eulogies.

The band posted a poignant public tribute following Bennington’s death, saying: “Just wanted to say thank you to all our fans around the world for the tremendous outpouring of love, which has strengthened our spirit during this incredibly difficult time.”
