Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt has already made his feelings clear on a potential summer transfer as Liverpool watch on.

Reports emerged on Tuesday that De Ligt could be in line for a surprise move away from the Bundesliga giants. Sky Germany reported that the Bundesliga club could let the centre-back leave on a permanent deal this summer.

Bayern are said to want to sign new defenders with Jonathan Tah and Chesea's Levi Colwill - both playing for German champions Bayer Leverkusen - thought to be targets. As a result, De Ligt has been listed as the player who could be sold to fund Bayern's new signings this summer.

Liverpool have not been directly linked with a move for De Ligt this summer, although there are rumours the Reds could be in the market for a new centre-back following the departure of Joel Matip. De Ligt was tentatively linked with Liverpool in 2019 during his time at Ajax before he opted to join Juventus in 2019, before sealing a £68million move to Munich three years later.

Rumours began to emerge before the end of last season suggesting that De Ligt could be in line for a move away from Germany this summer. Manchester United were credited with an interest at the time, but speculation around the defender's future has been largely quiet until the fresh update this week.

When the initial rumours surfaced back in March, De Ligt outlined his intention to keep performing for Bayern. The 24-year-old also explained why he was not thinking about his long-term future at the time.

"I'm not thinking about that now. I’m very happy at Bayern Munich," De Ligt said in a press conference back in March when asked if he could leave the Bundesliga club this summer.

"Of course, I haven’t had an easy season so far. I was injured for a long time. But at the moment I feel good and am fit, I want to play."
