Liverpool will have to battle with Brighton to sign Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer this summer, according to reports.

Wieffer, 24, worked with new Reds head coach Arne Slot last season and impressed, scoring six goals and adding four assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. He was part of the Feyenoord side that lifted the KNVB Cup and is someone that is catching the eye of a number of clubs across Europe.

According to HITC, however, Liverpool are behind Brighton in the race to sign the Dutchman, with Aston Villa, Brentford and Fulham also said to be in the running. Wieffer is a defensive midfielder who can operate further up the field, with tackling, aerial duels and passing his strongest qualities.

Alongside adding a midfielder to the squad, the Reds could bring in another winger. One of those names linked in that area is Athletic Bilbao sensation Nico Williams. The 21-year-old has been a standout performer at Euro 2024 and scored as Spain thrashed Georgia in the Round of 16 on Sunday.

He scored eight goals and provided 19 assists in 37 appearances last season and is being touted by the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal this summer. Williams has three years left on his contract but is reported to have a £46.5million release clause inserted into his deal.

And Spanish news outlet Nacional report that Liverpool are prepared to activate the release clause in Williams' contract after missing out on Anthony Gordon. Williams is a talented, pacey and industrious winger who usually plays off the left but can be used anywhere across the front line.

Elsewhere, Liverpool and Chelsea have both reportedly enquired about Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville. However, PSG are also monitoring his situation. According to De Telegraaf's Mike Verweij, the dutch forward is the subject of interest from all three clubs. PSG are looking to replace Kylian Mbappe and are preparing to step-up their interest in Summerville, who scored 21 goals in 49 matches last season.
