Liverpool John Lennon Airport grounds all flights amid 'power failure'

Holidaymakers have been warned that all flights to and from Liverpool John Lennon Airport have been grounded. It comes after a power failure has impacted air traffic control operations.

Anyone planning to travel from the airport today (April 22) has been advised to contact their airline for updates. The same goes for those who are heading to the site to pick-up loved ones from arrivals.

Engineers are working on the issue and a spokesperson for the airport said that they hope to resolve it as soon as possible. They shared a statement on social media just before 2pm this afternoon.

It said: "Unfortunately a power failure is impacting Air Traffic Control & aircraft operations are temporarily suspended. Passengers or those meeting flights should contact their airline for the latest flight information."

They added: "Engineers are working to resolve this asap with up dates to follow." One person joked on X, formerly Twitter: "[sic] At Liverpool airport and someone’s had the leccy meter off."

The disruption comes less than a week after Birmingham Airport was forced to suspend flights for a period following the discovery of a suspicious package on board a flight. The package was later ruled non-suspicious and services resumed.
