Liverpool are expected to have a busy transfer window under new boss Arne Slot as they prepare for the first summer without Jurgen Klopp at the helm since 2015.

The Reds are officially able to reach agreements with new signings from Friday, June 14 when the transfer window reopens across the Premier League and English Football League. Even before the opening of the window, Liverpool are being linked with a number of key players.

Rumours suggest that Liverpool could be in to strengthen their attacking department while a new midfielder could be signed following the departure of Thiago. Meanwhile, the defensive unit might need a bit of work with Joel Matip leaving the club at the end of his contract.

Liverpool have lost ground in the race to sign Florian Wirtz with Real Madrid moving into pole position to sign the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder in a £127million deal next summer.

Wirtz, 21, who scored 11 goals and provided 12 assists in 32 appearances as Leverkusen won the Bundesliga for the first time during the 2023/24 campaign, has attracted interest from across the continent. Liverpool have been floated as a possible destination for the German, however, a recent report has suggested it is not good news for the Reds in the race to sign the talented playmaker.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, there are two agreements in place that will pave the way for Wirtz to complete a move to Real. The first is to ensure he remains with Leverkusen until the end of the upcoming 2024/25 campaign. The second is also a verbal one with Real Madrid, agreeing personal terms in order to complete the move to Spain in 2025. It is added that the fee for the deal could reach as high as €150m (£127m).

Elsewhere, the ECHO understands that Liverpool have no interest in signing talented winger Yankuba Minteh to their squad this summer. The 19-year-old enjoyed an excellent season in the Netherlands under new Reds head coach Arne Slot, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists for Feyenoord.

However, a reunion for the duo seems not on the cards despite parent club Newcastle appearing to be open to selling him for £40m to ease their PSR fears.
