Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has emerged as a shock target for Bayern Munich this summer as new head coach Vincent Kompany plans to solidify his defensive options for the 2024/25 season.

The Mirror have reported that the Bavarians are keen to sign the 27-year-old, who can play in multiple positions. Gomez enjoyed a standout season with Liverpool last term, earning his place on the plane for England's European Championship campaign.

His ability to play at full-back as well as centre-back means he's a prized asset at Anfield. Gomez is expected to play a big part in Arne Slot's start to life on Merseyside but Bayern are keen.

Chelsea's Levi Colwill has also been linked, with reports in Germany indicating that Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah is also on Kompany's list. However, Gomez remains an option despite Liverpool's anticipated reluctance to let him move on.

Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the first-choice wing-backs with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate forming a strong partnership in central defence. At 27, there may be a slight temptation to cash-in on Gomez to strengthen Slot's side elsewhere.

Here, Liverpool Echo takes a look at four players the Reds could look to include in a swap deal to bring to the Premier League as part of Gomez's move to the Allianz Arena.

Matthijs de Ligt

One of the positions that Slot is likely to improve over the summer is at the heart of his backline. Van Dijk and Konate are two superb options but Joel Matip's departure leaves just Jarrell Quansah as deputy.

De Ligt is reportedly on Bayern's transfer list after failing to reach the levels he reached at Ajax and could be moved on this summer. Still only 24, the Netherlands international would be a superb signing for Liverpool to partner his counterpart and work under Slot.

A strong ball-playing defender, De Ligt has been linked with a move to the Premier League since bursting onto the scene with Ajax. One of Slot's biggest tasks this season will be keeping the pace on Manchester City and De Ligt's signing would more than strengthen their squad.

Joshua Kimmich

Another player who has reportedly been facing a potential exit is Kimmich. Like Gomez, Kimmich can play in more than one position and would strengthen Slot's team. Not only can he play at right-back and join midfield, the Germany international can support Wataru Endo in the holding midfielder position.

The 29-year-old's current contract at the Allianz Arena expires in 2025 and he's been linked with a move to Arsenal and Manchester United. Sky Sports Germany have revealed that he is one of six first team players who Bayern are open to selling with previous reports claiming he could be available for as little as £30m.

Kimmich has not yet come out publicly to state his preference, meaning Bayern could look to sell him this window rather than lose him for nothing.

Mathys Tel

Slot will arrive at Anfield well-stocked in attack with Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz all strong options. However, they lack an out-and-out number nine.

Tel, 19, is widely regarded as one of France's best up-and-coming talents. He joined Bayern in 2022 from Rennes for close to £30m, rejecting Real Madrid in the process, and is currently Harry Kane's deputy.

Since moving to Germany, he has bagged 16 goals playing as a centre-forward and left forward. Despite recently signing a new contract, he could be an option for Liverpool to include in a potential Gomez move.
