Naby Keita starts for Liverpool against Brighton this afternoon.

The Guinea international was forced off in the second half of last weekend’s 5-0 thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford after a terrible red-card challenge from Paul Pogba.

However, he resumed training this week after it was confirmed as only bruising and he starts today, though Liverpool - who make 10 changes from the midweek Carabao Cup win over Preston - are again without Fabinho, who is still struggling with a knee problem.

Thiago Alcantara is closing in on a return to action following a calf injury, but today’s game comes too early for the Spaniard as expected.

Jurgen Klopp has recalled Sadio Mane after he was rested against Manchester United.

The Liverpool boss has also decided to stick with Ibrahima Konate alongside Virgil van Dijk rather than bringJoel Matip back into the team.

“Naby Keita looks good,” said Klopp on Friday.

“We were all surprised, but he was obviously lucky so I think he will be ready.

“With Fabinho it does not look that good, it is a bit more complicated. Not too complicated, but complicated enough to keep him out now again, probably. I still wait for last news, but he was not in team training yet and that is never a good sign.

“Thiago was in team training for the first time yesterday. We did a session where he could be part of pretty much the whole session, [but] that doesn’t mean he is ready to play a football game, unfortunately.

“We will see what we do with him, but he is closer than he was last week, much closer. Now we have to see what we do with that.”
