Locals all say 'one simple solution' to 'unsafe' parking at Nuneaton's hospital

Parking problems at Nuneaton's hospital could be easily solved say locals - by building a new car park. They reacted to concerns about motorists simply parking on pavements around the George Eliot Hospital making it 'unsafe' for pedestrians especially those with prams and mobility issues.

The hospital told CoventryLive that it has plans to help tackle the issue including new ANPR-controlled parking and enforcement arrangements. But residents say that the simple solution is for more car parking spaces to be provided.

Back in 2020, the hospital did reveal that it wanted to create a multi-storey car park on site but this plan did not get off the ground. Under estates plans, new car parking spaces have been mooted but there have been no concrete proposals.

However, readers have said that this should become a priority. They took to the Nuneaton News page on Facebook and all said more car parking was needed.

Brady Hughes posted: "I really don’t understand why, when there is a clear lack of car parking, why someone doesn’t come up with the genius option of a multi-storey car park? Of course there are added maintenance costs because of lift access, however all of that extra revenue would surely cover it?

Graeme Hurry said: "Simple solution would be to erect a single storey, prefabricated, car park in the main car park. Just like they did at Nuneaton train station."

Elaine Williamson added: "Need better allocated parking, because you spend more time looking for a parking space, than you do at your actual appointment"

Caroline Knowles explained that it is not just visitors as staff are forced out on to the roads due to a lack of available spaces. "The staff don’t have enough parking let alone people who come for appointments," she posted. "I’ve seen staff parking on Greenmoor Road just up from the island and they even park on the Bermuda estates. where do you expect everyone to park when there isn’t enough parking."
