London Marathon live tracker 2018: How to follow the progress of friends and family on race day

Friends and family of London Marathon runners can track their loved ones during the race via GPS using the official app.

The tracking facility is available as an app on iPhone and Android and is also accessible via the official London Marathon website.

The app, powered by technology firm TCS, was redesigned for 2018 and now includes a list of pubs and live bands located on the race route, along with all drinks stations and first aid points on an interactive map.

It also includes Race Day information, points of interest on the route, split times, leaderboard positions and final results throughout the day.

Participants are searchable by surname or running number and positions are estimated as they cross the timing mats at 5km intervals.

You can track runners from 7am on Race Day.

The app is handy for those who want to spot their loved ones from the crowd on race day but is also a great tool for those who are unable to make it into London and want to keep tabs on individual runners.

It can be downloaded via the Apple store or Google Play.
