London Underground ‘Mind The Gap’ Announcer Phil Sayer Dies Aged 62

Millions heard his voice even if most never knew met him.

Phil Sayer, the man heard thousands of times a day on the London Underground telling passengers to ‘please mind the gap’, has died.

The 62-year-old, who voiceover artist passed away on Thursday, according to his Facebook page.

He set up a company with his wife, Elinor Hamilton.

A statement from the company - SayerHamilton - said: ‘Phil Sayer - voice of reason, radio, and railways. A dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

‘We are sorry to announce that this service terminates here. 18.5.53 - 14.4.16.’

Sayer, who also worked for the BBC, was the voice behind other announcements at radio stations across the country.

He only retired last month, ‘due to a sudden decline in health’.

In an interview with the Telegraph in 2010, he said he apologised ‘more than anybody in the UK’.
