Loose Women's Ruth Langsford has opened up about what would have prevented her from taking part in Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking to the Loose Women panel after Love Island's Megan Barton-Hanson hit out at boyfriend Wes Nelson's Dancing on Ice skating partner Vanessa Bauer, Ruth opened up about her own experience on Strictly with Anton du Beke.

Ruth spoke to husband and This Morning co-host Eamonn Holmes, 59, as well as her son, 16-year-old son Jack, before signing up to the show and explained there would be an impact on their home life.

She said: "I will be gone early in the morning, which I am anyway to do shows like This Morning, but then I won't be home until 9 o'clock. I will be going straight to training – I'll be doing that every day. I'll be working at the weekends, you won't see me. I might be a bit tired and grumpy.

"Or more tired and grumpy than usual. And I honestly say that if Jack had said, 'I don’t like the sound of that mum, you won't be here', I wouldn't have done it. Because to me, my marriage and my family life is more important."

Luckily, Jack was fine with the whole idea and Ruth went on to come 7th in the BBC reality show back in 2017.

She added: "And obviously Eamon being in this business understood, so I didn't ever have that."

However, she did mention that Eamon brought Ruth's dance partner Anton into a row once, after she kept coming home gushing about working with him.

She explained: "The only one, we were having a row about something and he went, 'Ooh, I bet Anton wouldn't do that.'

"I used to come home and say, 'Anton did this' and 'Anton, Anton Anton'. But the other way around I would be terrible. Terrible!"

Last week, Loose Women came under fire for a controversial debate around transgender rights, which did see Stacey Solomon praised for her stance.

Loose Women continues weekdays from 12.30pm.
