This is the moment a lost dog walked into a police station and patiently waited for officers to help find her owner.

Rosie was on a walk with her owner and another dog in Southfields Park, Loughborough, when she was spooked by a firework and ran off.

The border collie's owner tried searching for her to no avail, but he soon received a call from police to say she'd been found.

CCTV shows the 10-year-old rescue dog arriving through the automatic doors of Loughborough Police Station and having a little sniff in the corner before sitting down in the waiting room.

Staff on 3 November fetched some water for Rosie, who fast made friends at the station, where officers gave her plenty of fuss.

"Thankfully she was wearing a collar, so a lead was available to contact Rosie's owner, who was delighted she had been found safe and well," a police spokesperson said.

"Rosie was being walked nearby with a second dog when she managed to wander off. What a lovely, clever dog."

People praised "clever" Rosie for her quick thinking after Leicestershire Police shared a video of her arrival on Facebook on Monday.

One follower said: "Obviously wants to be part of the K-9 unit and become a police dog. Glad she ended up safe and well at the police station."

Another added: "Clearly understands the stranger danger rule and headed for the police for help. Well done Rosie."
