Lotto 6/49 Excel hack: Ontario man won $118,002.40 by tracking numbers for decades in a spreadsheet

"I've been playing LOTTO 6/49 since it came out," Rendall Pennie said after the exciting win

Rendall Pennie of Kirkfield won over $118,000 with his Excel strategy

An Ontario man who relied on an extensive Excel spreadsheet to play the lotto has finally won the jackpot, proving that his number crunching was worthwhile.

Rendall Pennie of Kirkfield, Ont. has been using the software to keep track of winning numbers as a way to figure out a possible pattern.

The construction worker won $118,002.40 in the Jan. 4 Lotto 6/49 draw, which was the second prize.

"I've been playing LOTTO 6/49 since it came out,” he told the Ontario Lotto and Gaming Corporation (OLG), when picking up his prize. “I put together an Excel sheet with all the winning numbers and analyze the data to pick the most common numbers."

The Lotto 6/49 was originally launched in 1982, so Pennie had plenty of data to work with. Pennie said when he heard the automated voice declare “Winner Gagnant” from the app, he took some time to process.

"I heard the winning jingle and I didn't believe it,” he said. “I showed my partner and her eyes opened wide and she said, 'No way.'"

Pennie, who is a grandfather, will be using the cash to enhance his life, though he didn’t say specifically how. It goes to show how commitment can often pay off.

"This money is going to do so much for me," he said.
