Pineapple Dance Studios star Louie Spence has hit out at the BBC's The Greatest Dancer, labelling it "weak"... and he didn't have many kind words to say about Cheryl either.

The new reality series debuted a few weeks ago, though dancer Louie reckoned it is just a "rehash" of existing formats.

"The format is just tired," he told New! magazine. "My expectations were that it was going to be a proper dance show, but it's just a rehash of Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor. Aren't we over that now? I think people are beyond all the sob stories."

He also called the show a "wasted opportunity", adding: "Are they naive that they're going to call a show The Greatest Dancer and have amateurs on there?

"I think it's a weak show and a wasted opportunity."

Louie went on to argue that dance captain Cheryl was not the right person for the job, and even questioned her national treasure status.

"I don't think she's the right person," he continued. "Is she someone like Bruce Forsyth? No.

"I personally don't thinks she's a national treasure."

However, the TV personality did have praise for Cheryl's fellow dance captain and Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse.

"Oti has a lot of personality and is bubbly and maybe Cheryl feels she needs to be more quiet because she's not really an expert in dance," he said.

The Greatest Dancer seems to be losing the ratings battle after two weeks on air, starting off strong with a 4.7 million debut before going down to 4.2 million this weekend. It has also faced some criticism for the lack of dancing featured.

Perhaps Louie can come in and add his incredible extra-ness to spice things up?

The Greatest Dancer continues this Saturday (January 19) on BBC One.
