Louise Redknapp has opened up about her relationship with ex-husband Jamie for the first time since their divorce last year.

The formal Eternal singer appeared on Heart Radio today where she told presenters Jamie Theakston and Lucy Horobin that Jamie is her “best friend”.

“It’s been really tough,” she said. “But I mean, you know, he’s my best friend. It’s been really tough but things happen. I saw him yesterday and it was all good. We had school meetings and stuff, like you do, so all good.”

Theakston, who is a close friend of Louise Redknapp’s, joked about being stuck in the middle since the her divorce from Jamie, saying: “I feel a bit awkward. My loyalties are split!”

Jamie and Louise were divorced just over a year ago, shortly after announcing they had separated following reports that their marriage was breaking down.

The pair were married for 19 years and have two sons together, Charley and Beau.

Later in the interview, Theakston asked Redknapp if she had any plans for Valentine’s Day, to which she replied: “Oh god! Do you know what? No! I hate Valentine’s Day now.”

She went on to reveal that she and her sons watched Harry Redknapp on TV every night when he was on I’m Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, although they couldn’t quite believe it was him on the show.

“My kids were going crazy laughing. Yes, we all watched him every night. I just don’t think they could believe it was him, because he just doesn’t do things like that.

“So they’re like, ‘Is Pop really gonna eat that? Is Pop really gonna do that?!’ The kids were super proud of him.”

Harry Redknapp went on to be crowned the King of the Jungle on the ITV reality show.

Louise also revealed that she’ll be returning to the musical 9 To 5 in mid-March, having taken time out to recover from a wrist injury she sustain.
