ITV has confirmed that the new series of Love Island will air on June 5, kicking off at 9pm on ITV2.

The launch date means that the show will clash with the first episode of Big Brother 2017.

BB has a half an hour headstart on Love Island, airing at 8.30pm on Channel 5.

With the two programmes overlapping, reality TV fans will be forced to choose which to watch in real time, though they can of course watch them later via the broadcasters’ catch up services.

The news comes after Channel 5 confirmed it will be launching a new rival dating show – We’re on a Break.

Touted as a cross between Love Island and Ex on the Beach, the series will see troubled couples fly out to Mexico to find out if they can resolve their issues.

Caroline Flack will return as presenter for Love Island series three and the host will also be fronting a new spin-off series called Aftersun, where celebrity guests and members of the public will be sharing their take on the couples and events in the house.

A full line up of the contestants jetting off to the Majorcan villa this summer has yet to be revealed but it’s rumoured that former Big Brother star Bernardo Belmar could be looking for love on the show and Katie Salmon from last year’s series is reported to be returning.

The new series of Love Island will air on ITV2 at 9pm on June 5.
