'Love Island' star India Reynolds wants to see curvier women appear on the show

Love Island contestant India Reynolds says it's "mad" she was considered a "curvy" woman on the show and thinks the line-up should be more representative.

The 30-year-old model competed on the 2019 series of the ITV reality show and finished in third place alongside popular contestant Ovie Soko.

She told The Sun that Love Island presents a warped perspective of what women actually look like, given the average dress size in the UK is now 16.

“It was mad that I was considered curvy on the show," said Reynolds. "I’m a dress size 10, which is smaller than average.”

She added: “When I came out, I realised there was a huge misrepresentation of women’s bodies because if people are looking at me and thinking I’m the curvy one then the general scale is way off.”

Love Island has faced criticism over the years for its lack of body diversity, but host Laura Whitmore has said the show is "not about appearances, it's personality".

Last year, she said: "I love how the show has grown over the years, it’s been lovely. When it all comes down to it, it’s about the relationships and personalities. We all watch and judge those islanders as they come onto the show but that always changes.

Whitmore added: "I think casting do a great job on the show and it’s open to a wide range of people.

"I think there’s quite a range in there and probably only a certain group of people are putting themselves up there."

Love Island is set to return to screens this summer, after the 2020 series was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

ITV2 had already aired the show's first winter series in the early months of the year, before COVID-19 forced productions across the world to shut down.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the show's bosses were actively seeking LGBT+ contestants for the upcoming series.

Few details have been confirmed about the new run, including whether or not the usual Majorca setting will be used.
