YOUNGSTERS got the holidays off to a flying start with some free fun family sessions.

There was a bouncy castle, arts and crafts and outdoor sports on offer at Branchton Community Centre.

The sessions run every Monday and Tuesday morning, between 10am and noon, until July 23 and include a free lunch too.

Shelly McIlroy, chairperson of the centre, said: "So many families cannot afford days out for the kids or to buy the resources to bake or do arts and crafts.

"This means parents can spend quality time bonding with their kids here.

"We've been so busy, we've got a group of kids playing dodgeball and playing in the park. It's been a great atmosphere.

"It's open for all ages from babies upwards and we have a gaming room for older kids with VR headsets, Playstation 5 and retro arcades games.

"We also provide a light lunch of sandwiches and fresh fruit."

Mum Mirella Medinelli, 25, said: "I think it's great, it's good to entertain the kids for a couple of hours and the staff are so friendly when you come up.

Mirella has three children, twin daughters Arianna and Amelia, who are six, and a four-year-old son Michele.

She said: "I have three children and they're all different ages, so it takes a lot of money to entertain them.

"The centre has something to entertain all of them and it's free which is half the battle.

"There are things indoor too, so we can come here in any weather. The kids love it."
