Lucifer fans have been left heartbroken all over again at the news that its upcoming fifth season will be the last.

So what does any fanbase do in this day and age? Well, obviously start a petition, and now show boss Ildy Modrovich has responded to fan efforts to get Lucifer a sixth season.

Asked by one fan what he thinks of the petition, the showrunner tweeted: "Sorry I've been quiet on this issue. Truth is, it's cuz I'm torn. So much of me could do #Lucifer forever.

"But I'm also immensely grateful YOU & @netflix gave us the chance to continue our story together. And I know S5 is going to be a love letter to our #Lucifans so…".

However, Modrovich did confirm that season 5 will be 10 episodes, putting it at the same length as season 4.

Intriguingly, she also said it would be "interesting" to see a spin-off for Ella, Maze, and Chloe when suggested by one fan.

Meanwhile, Modrovich has spoken about what fans can expect from the final season, teasing: "We really try to ping it in a completely different direction.

"If everybody is speculating on one thing, we just try to think as a batshit as we can, as outside of the box as possible, so that people don’t get bored, so we don’t get bored.

"We do have an idea. It's an idea that when it came up in the room, we went, 'Oh god, that’s crazy.' Then the more we talked about it, the more we went, 'and brilliant.'"

Lucifer season 4 is available to watch now on Netflix. Catch up on seasons 1-3 via Amazon Prime.
