Leeds United's Carabao Cup first-round tie with Championship rivals Middlesbrough will be shown live on Sky Sports, with the broadcaster opting to screen the pick of the games.

It's perhaps no surprise that the match between two of the division's promotion contenders should be chosen for live TV coverage, with Daniel Farke's side now set to fearure five times before the end of September. The Elland Road tie will take place on Wednesday, August 14, kicking off at 8pm.

It's the latest TV announcement following the news this week that a further three games have been selected for broadcast. Not only is the opening weekend fixture against Portsmouth to be shown live, but the games at West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday are scheduled for TV coverage, as is the home game with Burnley in September.

Promotion is of course ther main focus for Farke and Co this season, but an early win over promotion rivals Boro will no doubt be a useful boost for morale. Michael Carrick's side have already been busy in the summer transfer window, signing Aidan Morris and Delano Burgzorg as well as confirming the permanent deal for Luke Ayling.

It means the former Leeds United star's Elland Road return will now be broadcast to the nation, with the defender sure to get a warm welcome on his emotional first comeback. All four of Leeds' opening fixtures will now be shown live on Sky Sports, while the draw for the second round will take place after the Leeds vs Middlesbrough game.
