A luxury cruise ship with 600 passengers, six restaurants and a Roman-themed spa is just one of four vessels due in Plymouth this week. The huge Silver Dawn cruise ship drops anchor on Wednesday as part of a round-Britain voyage.

The 11-deck, Bahamas-registered “mega yacht” can carry 411 crew and 596 passengers, who will come ashore in Plymouth. It is described by Silversea Cruises as containing “sumptuous suites, outstanding itineraries, plus cutting-edge design and technology”.

The three-year-old vessel, built at a cost of about £275m, also promises its guests a “revolutionary spa and well-being concept “ called Otium which provides “onboard experiences of wellness, relaxation and indulgence through innovative treatments designed by our experts” and inspired by “the traditions of ancient Rome”.

It is based on a concept “where everything from sumptuous food to spa experiences to socialising became a part of daily life for the elite”.

In addition to 288 cabins, Silver Dawn has six dining venues “each boasting a distinctive ambience and five-star service that rivals any land-based luxury hotel”. These include the seafood eatery Atlantide, the exclusive La Dame, La Terrazza, Asian specialist Kaiseki, and Italian-themed Spaccanapoli.

Silver Dawn visited Plymouth in May last year too. On Thursday, May 16, the much smaller vessel Exploris One is due to arrive in Britain’s Ocean City for the first time.

It can carry up to 173 passengers and is an expedition ship, specially strengthened to carve its way through ice. It is operated by Exploris Cruises and Expeditions.

Meanwhile, two stunning Spanish sailing ships are due to dock in Plymouth for Pirates weekend. Following a successful visit last year, the full-size replica of a 17th Century Spanish galleon Galeón Andalucía, accompanied by the Pascual Flores, will return to Britain’s Ocean City from May 15 to 19 and become a star attraction for Pirates Weekend.

The impressive tall ship, which is nearly 50m in length, will again be berthed alongside on the Barbican Landing Stage. As a floating museum, people will be able to go onboard and explore the ship’s six decks which offer features, exhibits and displays.

Accompanying Galeón Andalucía to Plymouth will be the Pascual Flores, an original example of a “pailebote”, which is Spanish for pilot’s boat. The vessel was used to export fruit, salt and general cargo in Mediterranean ports and anchorages and on the North and West coasts of Africa. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore this interesting vessel.
