A man had his hand cut off after being attacked with his own machete by angry vigilantes, according to locals. Drone footage reveals the extent of damage after a city in southern China was struck by a 6.0-magnitude earthquake. The video filmed in Lu County in Sichuan Province on September 16 shows damaged houses and a rescue team setting up tents in an open area. At least three people were killed and 88 were injured. 1,221 residential houses were damaged across the county. The video was provided by local media with permission.
Police averted a possible Islamist attack on a synagogue in western Germany and arrested four people including a 16-year-old Syrian youth in connection with the threat, the regional interior minister said on Thursday. Authorities had received a "a very serious and concrete tip" that an attack on the synagogue in the town of Hagen could take place during the Jewish festival of Yom Kippur, the minister, Herbert Reul, said. Officers tightened security around the building on Wednesday evening and searched it for bombs but found nothing dangerous, Reul, interior minister for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, told a news conference.

An east German city was due to go to court on Thursday seeking to remove election posters saying "Hang The Greens" placed by a far-right party with suspected links to neo-Nazi groups.
