PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti/CIUDAD ACUNA, Mexico (Reuters) -Angry scenes broke out at Haiti's main airport on Tuesday among migrants sent home from a squalid Texas border camp, as U.S. President Joe Biden faced mounting pressure to stop an expulsions policy the U.N. refugee chief said may be illegal. Nearly 10,000 migrants, mainly Haitian, remain in worsening conditions in the impromptu camp that sprang up under a bridge spanning the Rio Grande from the Texas town Del Rio to Mexico's Ciudad Acuna. In recent days, U.S. authorities have removed at least 4,000 people from the site for processing in detention centers.
SYDNEY/MELBOURNE (Reuters) -A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck near Melbourne on Wednesday, Geoscience Australia said, one of the country's biggest quakes on record, causing damage to buildings in the country's second-largest city and sending tremors throughout neighbouring states. The quake's epicentre was near the rural town of Mansfield in the state of Victoria, about 200 km (124 miles) northeast of Melbourne, and was at a depth of 10 km (six miles). Images and video footage circulating on social media showed rubble blocking one of Melbourne's main streets, while people in northern parts of the city said on social media they had lost power and others said they were evacuated from buildings.

Taxpayers will help pay for the operating costs of a US-owned fertiliser manufacturer amid the ongoing energy crisis - just weeks after the government announced it was cutting Universal Credit and raising National Insurance contributions. In a deal brokered by Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng, the UK Government will provide "limited financial support" towards CF Fertilisers' running costs to ensure the supply of CO2 for the food sector continues. This comes despite Mr Kwarteng admitting the combination of rising gas prices and the looming £20 a week cut to Universal Credit meant hard-pressed families could face a "difficult winter".

Ministers are considering efforts to join an existing free trade agreement between the US, Mexico and Canada - or to strike a series of mini-deals with America - after Boris Johnson appeared to admit a standalone UK-US free trade deal was not an imminent prospect. On his visit to New York and Washington DC this week, the prime minister has failed to commit to securing a free trade agreement between Britain and America by the time of the next general election in 2024. A senior government figure has suggested that an alternative route to boosting trans-Atlantic trade could be the UK joining the existing free trade agreement between the US, Mexico and Canada, known as USMCA.
A New York City restaurant released footage of an alleged assault, following an altercation over vaccine cards that involved a restaurant hostess and several patrons visiting from Texas.Security camera footage released by Carmines on September 20, shows three black women entering the restaurant after showing their vaccination cards. Shortly afterward, three men arrive to join the party, but only one shows a COVID-19 vaccine card. The women go into the restaurant with the man, then turn and go back outside.A lawyer for one of the women said the 24-year-old restaurant hostess used a racial slur, antagonized the guests by implying their vaccination cards were fake, and assaulted them, reports said.Police said they responded to the incident and the three Texas women were charged with assault and criminal mischief. The restaurant denies race was a factor in the altercation. In a statement released alongside the security footage, the restaurant owner Jeffrey Bank said the lawyer representing the three women had “falsely and grossly misrepresented their acts of wanton violence” and that his employees “work too hard to serve our guests, work too hard to comply with New York’s vaccination requirements, and still suffer too much from the attack for me to allow these false statements to stand.” Credit: Carmine’s Italian Restaurant via Storyful
