Drivers are being "strongly urged" to allow extra time for journeys this weekend due to a full closure of part of the M180.

The motorway will be shut in both directions between junctions 2 (Woodhouse) and 3 (Midmoor), near Scunthorpe, from 8pm on Friday (May 10), until 6am on Monday (May 13). National Highways says the closure is to allow for additional work to a bridge beam at Mutton Bridge, near Outmill.

It comes following a number of closures, including two full weekends in March and April, for repair work after the bridge was severely damaged by an oversized vehicle hitting its underside last year.

A spokesperson for National Highways added: "Signed diversions will be in place. Motorists are strongly advised to plan their route carefully, allow plenty of extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes where possible."

On social media, they said: "Our teams will be working to a planned programme and will look to re-open the M180 as soon as possible.

"Signed diversions will be in place and we ask drivers to plan their route carefully and consider alternatives where possible.

"Delays in the local area are expected, please allow extra time for your journey and plan ahead. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this work will cause. If you have any questions or comments, please get in touch with us on 0300 123 5000 or email info@nationalhighways.co.uk; we will be happy to help."
