M5 horror crash leaves five seriously injured

Five individuals were taken to hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, June 25, following a severe two-vehicle collision on the M5. A man has since been detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink driving, drug driving and driving whilst unfit.

The incident occurred on the M5 between Quedgeley and Gloucester, leading to a complete halt of traffic on the northbound carriageway around 2.30am, causing significant delays for several hours.

All five casualties suffered serious injuries and were immediately taken to hospital. They are all believed to be in stable condition now.

A statement from Gloucestershire Police said: "A man has been arrested this morning on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink driving, drug driving and driving whilst unfit following a 2 vehicle collision on the M5 today. 5 people have gone to hospital with serious injuries but are in stable conditions.

"The road was closed for a number of hours to tend to those requiring medical attention and the landing for #Helimed. Our thanks to @Glosfire #SWAST and @HighwaysSWEST for your assistance. Road is now re-opened."

National Highways said that "all" emergency services were working at the scene "with traffic officers en route to install strategic closures". A diversion route to the A38 was put in place to help clear the stuck traffic while crews cleared the scene.

The carriageway was cleared around 5.20am this morning and the road was reopened. Traffic in the area has eased and returned to normal.
