M62 closed for hours after suspected drink and drug driver crash

A suspected drink and drug driver was arrested after a crash caused a motorway to close for hours.

Emergency services were called to junction 7 of the M62 to reports a BMW was involved in a crash with an articulated lorry at around 1.55am today, Friday, April 12. The driver of the BMW suffered a laceration to his head.

Two passengers of the car, who were both men, and the man driving the lorry were uninjured. A 19-year-old man from the Stoke area was arrested on suspicion of disqualified driving, drink and drug driving and careless driving.

The eastbound carriageway was closed for around four hours and reopened at around 6.30am.
