Madame Tussauds forced to close Alien experience after being hit by flooding

Madame Tussauds has been forced to close temporarily its immersive experience based on the Alien films after being hit by floods less than two weeks after opening.

Visitors to “Alien: Escape”, which uses a mix of live actors alongside traditional waxworks, were turned away at the door for safety reasons yesterday morning.

Spokeswoman Claire Treacy said: “Our wax models are quite resilient and have luckily all survived but it’s too soon to say when we can reopen.”

The live-action tour gives visitors the chance to outrun Xenomorphs and was designed by Creatures Inc, the team behind the Ridley Scott film Alien Covenant.

Ms Treacy said: “We have had to close Alien: Escape as a safety precaution”. She added that it was also to keep the show looking its best. “There was some flooding in the attraction which meant we had to delay opening and there was a lot of water on the floor which we have been drying all day.

“We’re fortunate that the way the flooding happened it didn’t fall on any of other figures.”

She said visitors affected can “come back another day and their ticket will be valid”.
