Madonna powered through technical challenges on Wednesday night as she kicked off the latest leg of her Celebration Tour.

Before performing to a sold-crowd of 14,000 fans at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, the Queen of Pop, 65, faced "issues during soundcheck that caused the schedule to get delayed by an hour," a source tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Though doors still opened just after 7:30 p.m. for fans, the pop icon was "sound-checking until the moment they did to work out the issues," adds the source. (Despite reports she was three hours late, the source adds that the night's schedule was only pushed by an hour.)

Once Madonna hit the stage, the show went off without a hitch as she sang a range of hits from her decades-spanning career, including "Like a Prayer," "Vogue" — and "I Love New York," a new addition for her hometown show.

At one point during the concert, the pop diva appeared to struggle with sound issues while speaking onstage, telling fans she heard an "echo" in her ear.

Despite any snags, the audience was on their feet throughout the night dancing and singing along.

While performing her 1990 classic "Vogue," Madonna brought out her boxing coach boyfriend Josh Popper to serve as a judge.

The couple — who have been linked since February — sat side by side as they held up score cards while her dancers performed sexy ballroom moves on a catwalk.

Madonna has previously invited close friends Debi Mazar, Donatella Versace and more to join her onstage for the segment on tour.

The superstar's concert Wednesday night marked Madonna's first performance of her critically acclaimed tour's North American leg.

She'll be finishing 79 total stops before wrapping up in Mexico in the spring.
