MAFS UK star Paul says his mum categorically 'denied' he was on the show

The Married at First Sight UK (MAFS UK) cast can sometimes struggle to convince their family that being part of the social experiment is a good thing, but 2023 groom Paul tells Yahoo UK he had a very difficult experience with his mum when he told her about it.

Paul explains that his mother categorically refused to believe he was on the show and denied he was a part of it even when cameras were filming her for the E4 series.

"My mum denied it," Paul says. "I was like I already signed up, and she' [responded] 'it's not happening' and I said 'it's a bit late, cameras are on your face right now. You can't really back out!'"

The reality series sees eight prospective brides and grooms agree to marry a stranger, who they meet for the first time at the altar and then pledge themselves to as part of the social experiment.

The account manager is paired with Tasha, who is the person who is best suited to him according to the show's relationship experts, but even with a wedding, honeymoon and married life planned out for them Paul's mum was unhappy with his decision, he adds.

Paul and Tasha's nuptials are set to take place during the show's fourth episode, but Paul's mother initially refuses to attend the wedding without knowing the woman who will be her future daughter-in-law.

"Literally she was not happy. She was not happy, she said to me you're only doing this because you can't get women, I was like 'I can, but maybe I can't?' Paul reflects.

Speaking of his family in general, he adds: "Yeah, they were not happy at all, but they got round to it eventually, so that was nice."

MAFS UK fans will have to wait and see how things go between Paul and Tasha, as well as how his family come to see his bride over time.
