Magic Johnson Celebrates Son EJ's Birthday and Applauds Him for Helping Others Be 'Their Authentic Selves'

"Never forget I will always be here to support, guide, and love you because I'm your biggest fan," Magic wrote in a birthday tribute to EJ

Magic Johnson is celebrating his son EJ's 32nd birthday with a sweet tribute on social media.

In posts on Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday, June 4, the 64-year-old basketball icon shared a photo of himself and EJ at the Elizabeth Taylor Ball to End AIDS at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Sept. 2023.

Magic wrote, "Happy Birthday to my son, EJ!"

"EJ is amazing and intelligent," the former basketball star continued, highlighting how his son has "helped so many other people live life as their authentic selves" and feel "comfortable in their own skin," in his birthday tribute to the former reality television star.

Concluding his message for EJ's birthday, Magic wrote, "Never forget I will always be here to support, guide, and love you because I'm your biggest fan!"

In his birthday tribute to EJ one year before, Magic wrote, "I love your pure heart and creativity! Keep living your truth, it’s what I love about you most!"

EJ came out as gay in 2013 and went on to star as a lead in the reality series Rich Kids of Beverly Hills in 2019, where he began to grow a loyal fan base.

In March 2023, Magic spoke to PEOPLE about EJ's impact on the LGBTQ+ community and how proud he is of his son for inspiring others.

"I love EJ's career. I think that EJ is really taking charge of his career and making his own decisions, and he knows how and what he wants to get into," Magic said, adding that he's "really proud of him because he's getting so involved and letting his voice help other people too."

"He's saving a lot of people's lives and people don't even know, and I'm so proud of him," Magic added.

The former Los Angeles Laker shared, "He's always saying, 'You know what, Dad, I want to make sure everything that I do, that I enjoy it and that it sends the right message out there to my fans and the people who have always loved and supported me.'"

Magic shares EJ and daughter Elisa, 29, with his wife Cookie Johnson. The former point guard also has a son Andre, 43, from a previous relationship with ex-girlfriend Melissa Mitchell in 1981.
