Maisie Smith and Max George's 'awkward' response as they are quizzed on marriage

Maisie Smith and Max George appeared to be put on the spot and gave an awkward response when quizzed about marriage live on television.

The couple, who first met on Strictly Come Dancing, both appeared on Good Morning Britain on Monday to chat about an exciting new venture. The pair revealed they will soon be working alongside one another in a new career move.

Former EastEnders star Maisie and The Wanted singer Max are taking on the role of married couple Parson Nathaniel and wife Beth in the iconic Jeff Wayne's The War of The Worlds ‘The Spirit of Man' arena tour in 2025.

The announcement has intrigued fans as people will hear Maisie sing for the first time and Max act for the first time on stage according to reports in Manchester Evening News.

Whilst Maisie, 22, and Max, 35, appeared on the breakfast programme to share their excitement at the new opportunity and exciting career venture, host ITV host Ed Balls asked if they had been "practising" for their theatre roles.

Maisie appeared visibly confused by the question, as Ed pressed: "Did you practise in advance? To be married?" he awkwardly asked the couple.

The former soap star began to laugh before exclaiming: "To be married?!" Max appeared to share his girlfriend's confusion. He stated: "I mean we live with each other and argue."

Maisie then interrupted, saying: "We spend enough time to probably know what it's like." Max then attempted to steer the conversation back to the topic of their new career move in the theatre production as he shared their excitement.

It comes as Max previously addressed marriage plans for the pair. They met whilst competing alongside one another on BBC's Strictly in 2020 before going public with their romance in 2022.

"I can tell you now that me and Maisie won’t be getting married yet and she would tell you that too," Max exclusively told Ladbrokes LIVE earlier this year. "We are both really hungry for work and focussed on our careers. So weddings aren’t something we are thinking about. We love being together but that is on the long finger."
