A major A-road in Cornwall has been closed after a significant 'depression' was found. The A39 is closed between Halloon and Highgate - St Columb Road to Indian Queens - while "urgent" road investigations are carried out.

The roadwork listing says: "Closure for urgent investigations due to large depression in carriageway."

It is currently unclear when the road will be reopened, but the listing on Cornwall Council's website suggest it is going to be closed for some time. The current closure will be in place from today (April 23) to May 17, the website says.

Instead of taking the usual route, traffic is being asked to divert via Park Road at Fraddon northbound. Motorists heading southbound should take Station Road from the Halloon roundabout.

Cornwall Council said: "Emergency road closure. The A39 eastbound from Halloon to Highgate - St Columb Road to Indian Queens - is closed due to a depression in the carriageway.

"Both eastbound lanes are closed. A diversion route will be in place."
