Major incident between Troon and Arran after collision at sea
The Troon RNLI Lifeboat crew were summoned to a major incident yesterday after two vessels collided on the waters between Troon and Arran.
At 3.17pm on Thursday, April 25, they were paged to attend by Belfast Coastguard, who co-ordinated the incident.
Also summoned to the scene were the fast rescue craft from the Calmac Ferry, Isle of Arran, Arran RNLI lifeboat, two Coastguard helicopters and an RAF Poseidon aircraft.
Also tasked were the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team, two Senior Coastal Operations Officers, officers from Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Arran RNLI lifeboat Atlantic 85 Rachel Hedderwick arrived on scene first, locating three casualties within a life raft, that were transferred to Troon Trent class all-weather lifeboat RNLB Jim Moffat.
With initial casualty care being carried out by the volunteer lifeboat crews, Troon lifeboat made best speed back to Troon to meet with the other partner emergency services at the lifeboat station.
Once back at the lifeboat berth, the casualties were handed over to the care of the ambulance service and coastguard teams, and the lifeboat crew made the all-weather lifeboat ready for service with the assistance of the shore crew.
