Mamma Mia 2 star says sequel is "better" than the first

From Digital Spy

We can't resist the thought of Mamma Mia 2, if we're being honest, and it seems we have a lot to be excited about according to star Amanda Seyfried.

The actress has said that Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again, which has just wrapped filming, is "better than the original", though admitted she was initially skeptical about returning as Sophie.

"Truthfully, when they were like, 'We're making Mamma Mia 2,' I was like, 'That's going to be terrible,'" Amanda told Entertainment Weekly. "But it's not! It's amazing."

The actress also had big praise for the new additions to the cast, notably Cinderella star Lily James (who will portray the younger version of Meryl Streep's Donna in flashbacks).

"As soon as you see Lily on screen, you're like, 'Oh my God, that's Donna! I'm seeing Donna when she was wild and young and free, and she has the essence that Meryl brought to it. And it's kind of extraordinary."

Amanda also admitted that she had the "time of [her] life" filming the sequel, and that it even exceeded her experience on the first 2008 film.

"I actually had a better time than I did shooting the first movie," she continued. "Everybody's back together and it's been 10 years. There's so much love and so much family that it's infused 100 times in this movie. It was so unexpected for me."

Amanda added: "The movie's better than the original because there's a depth to it that only comes from time."

Oh, and she confirmed that there will be plenty of "new stuff", including ABBA favourite 'Angel Eyes', as well as reprises of performances from the first film.

Alongside returning favourites, one of the most exciting new additions to the cast is Cher, who will play an undisclosed role.

Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again is due for release in US cinemas on July 20, 2018 and UK cinemas on July 27, 2018.
