Man, 53, attacked by two men with weapon in Greenock left with serious facial injuries

A man has been left with serious facial injuries after being attacked by two men with a weapon in Greenock.

The 51-year-old man was assaulted on Lansbury Street at around 1.50pm on Friday (May 31). Emergency services rushed to the scene and he was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he received treatment for serious facial injuries.

Police Scotland has now launched a manhunt to find the two suspects and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The first suspect is described as between 40 and 50 years old, heavy set, balding, and was wearing a green shirt and blue jeans. The second suspect is described as having brown hair and a full beard and was wearing a grey top with a distinctive dark banner across the shoulders and grey tracksuit bottoms.

A white Vauxhall van was in the area at the time of the incident.

Detective Constable Laura Sokolov said: “This was a violent attack and we are appealing for any information which could help us find the men responsible.

“If you were in Lansbury Street around 1.50pm on Friday afternoon and saw or heard anything at all suspicious please get in touch.

“We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone with private CCTV or dash-cam footage of the surrounding area which could be of significance to our enquiries.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2328 of Friday, 31 May, 2024. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
