Man 'beaten to death' in front of Wetherspoons pub drinkers after Euro 2024 match

A man was tragically beaten to death in front of shocked pub-goers following England's Euro 2024 match against Denmark. The incident occurred at the Dolphin and Anchor Wetherspoons in Chichester, West Sussex, around 11pm on Thursday.

Police arrived to find a 57 year old man from South Yorkshire who had sustained fatal head injuries after being assaulted by three men. According to police, the pub was bustling when the assault took place, less than three hours after England's disappointing draw.

The attack began inside the pub, officers said. Emergency services attempted to save the man by performing CPR in the street outside the pub, but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been notified and will receive support from specialist officers. Police are urging anyone who was in the pub at the time to come forward.

Officers stated there is no indication that the deceased man knew his attackers.
