Man breached restraining order and threatened victim through messages - Hull court round-up

A man who breached a restraining order and threatened death or serious harm against the victim, a violent offender who assaulted a police officer and serial shoplifters have been sentenced by magistrates in Hull in recent days.

While other cases were adjourned to a later date and others sent to be tried at Hull Crown Court, many people from across Hull and East Yorkshire were still handed prison sentences, community orders and hefty fines at Hull Magistrates' Court.

Here are some cases that were heard by magistrates in Hull last week.

Baban Hamajam, 38, of Constable Street, Hull indicated pleas of guilty to breaching a restraining order and harassing the victim and sending communications threatening death or serious harm. He was given a two-year suspended sentence order and ordered to comply with rehabilitation activity.

James Dixon, 38, of Brooklands Road, Hull indicated pleas of guilty to assault by beating against a police officer and the criminal damage of a police van. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service, £50 in compensation and a £26 victim services surcharge.

Joshua Bedford, 27, of Eldon Grove, Hull indicated pleas of guilty to five counts of theft from a shop in which he stole £135 worth of items from Waterstones, trainers from Deichmann, shampoos worth £65 from Superdrug, items worth £60 from Poundland and £20 of Lynx products from One Beyond. He was jailed for 20 weeks.

Andrew Sunman, 33, of Leander Road, Hull indicated pleas of guilty to 13 counts of theft from a shop in which he stole food and drink items worth more than £900 from One Stop Shop. He was given an 18-month suspended sentence order.

Andrew North, 61, of Highfield Close, Hull pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage in which he damaged artificial plants and trellis with the intention of damaging such property. He was ordered to pay £200 in compensation, fined £125 and ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £50 victim services surcharge.

Jason Ayrton, 50, of Victoria Road, Bridlington indicated a plea of guilty to the common assault of a police officer. He was given a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £150 in compensation and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Derek Hatton, 38, of Huntingdon Street, Hull pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £100 in compensation, £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a £48 victim services surcharge.

Michelle Edgcumbe, 52, of Victor Street, Hull pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in public and indicated pleas of guilty to the possession of a class B drug and a class C drug. She was detained in the courthouse.

Ryan Sharkett, 31, of Valiant Drive, Hull pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a shop in which he stole £116 worth of washing detergent. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge.
