This Man Was Charged £3,731 To Park In London For Six Hours

We all know London is expensive, but this takes the mickey.

A driver was charge a whopping £3,731 for parking in the capital for just six hours.

Manish Wadhwani left his car in a National Car Park (NCP) in Portland Square, having agreeing an all-day-for-£5 price.

He had come all the way from India with his family to visit the Winter Wonderland attraction at Hyde Park and parked his car in the secure spot.

Having used the parking facility earlier in the year, Mr Wadhwani didn’t even think about the ticket price when he came to pay.

However, an error meant he was charged almost £4,000 for a six-hour stay – wiping out his credit card and meaning he had to borrow money immediately.

“After parking for six hours on Sunday, I put my card in the NCP machine. It didn’t ask me for pin number or show the amount I was being charged. Then the barrier lifted, I took my card out and got a receipt for £3,731,” he told London24.

“I literally screamed at that point and rang for assistance.”

It turned out that NCP had mistakenly believed that he had never left the car park – so had been charging him since August.

Manish continued: “The phone operator was surprised but said he couldn’t approve a refund. He told me someone would contact me after two days and I would receive a refund within a week.”

He’s still waiting for a refund, but has been promised one is on the way.
