Detectives investigating the deaths of an elderly couple in west London have charged a man with their murder.

The pair's bodies were discovered by police officers in their flat at Adair Tower, Appleford Road, in north Kensington on Thursday morning.

Sergey Koudriavstev, 48, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of murder on Friday afternoon, Scotland Yard said.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Metropolitan Police officers were alerted to the west London address by colleagues in Surrey who had been contacted by a man known to the couple.

On entering the flat, officers found the bodies of the unnamed man and woman inside.

Forensic officers were seen leaving Adair Tower late on Thursday night, before two covered bodies were taken away in a private ambulance.

Scotland Yard said a post-mortem examination is due to start on Saturday for the 69-year-old man and 68-year-old woman.

The Homicide and Major Crime Command is continuing with its inquiries.
