An inquest has opened into the death of a Woolpit man who died while working on his car last summer.

On Friday, the inquest into the death of Nicholas Campbell was opened at Suffolk Coroners’ Court in Ipswich.

The court heard that on August 6 last year, Mr Campbell, who was 46, was out working underneath a vehicle on the driveway of his home in the mid Suffolk village.

At about 4.30pm on that day, his wife went into the couple’s front garden.

She saw that her husband had become trapped, as the vehicle had come off the ramps which were holding it up.

Two neighbours came running after hearing Mrs Campbell calling for help.

They managed to pull Mr Campbell out from under the vehicle using a car jack.

Emergency services were called. However, Mr Campbell could not be saved.

His inquest is expected to conclude at Suffolk Coroners' Court on Friday, July 12.
