A man has died following a high-speed police pursuit after ploughing into a BMW and a building.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were on patrol in Hyde shortly before 1am Monday morning when a red Volkswagen Golf failed to stop for them.

The man is accused of fleeing, leading to a pursuit began but officers lost sight of the vehicle.

When the car was found a short time later, it had been in collision with an oncoming blue BMW in Manchester Road and had then crashed into a building.

According to the Manchester Evening News, numerous eyewitnesses said the car burst into flames after the crash.

The fire service have confirmed crews attended and put out a fire in a car which was ‘well alight’.

The sole occupant of the Golf died at the scene.
